Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
